Art nouveau, the artistic style inspired by nature

Art Nouveau was an artistic style and movement that emerged in the late 19th century as a wish to negate the paradigms of traditional art of the century, eclecticism and historicism. Art Nouveau followed the [[ Arts & Crafts, where the artist and the artisan work together | Arts & Crafts movement ]] and William Morris’s ideals, wanting to connect the artist and the artisan in order to combine structural logic with the beauty of expression. Its aim was to create a Gesamtkunstwerk through the use of sinuous, curvaceous, free lines, ornaments inspired from nature and geometric stilised forms. Art Nouveau also took inspiration from oriental art, especially from the [[ Japanese inspiration in modern movements of the early 20th century | Japanese culture ]].
