Red vienna and the viennese hofs

The movement known in history as the Red Vienna was a movement in which mass housing was built and the ‘red tax’ for exterior signs of wealth was introduced, meaning that all the unnecessary objects of the rich bourgeoise had to be taxed. The houses built were social housing, the so called ‘worker’s citadels’, aiming to embody a palace for the population kind of characteristic with amenities for the community. The architects who built in the Red Vienna were looking for various aesthetics, usually an exterior monumental look, trying to address the representativity of the working class and the new ‘fast’ urban perception (the perception of the city from inside the automobile).
