Different perspectives on the image of the city

During the Renaissance, the traditional city used to be perceived as a painting, the visitor going through a cinematic experience when entering the city. The city was back then understood as a scene, as something part of a theatrical experience because of the various decor elements participating to this whole ambiance. Nonetheless, the city in the industrial age was perceived as more of a superimposing of layers that were difficult to understand. The city offered a reality that was perceived from multiple points of view, offering multiple vanishing points perspectives. That can be translated as the fragmented perception of the city. In conclusion, the sensual perception of the city has dramatically changed throughout the years.
