Civitas and the privileges that came with this status
The Civitas status was a status attributed to cities in the medieval Romania, given to cities that were fully-developed and had a strong urban community and citizens that actively contributed to the improvement of the city. These cities had thus special privileges, such as independence and self-regulation in terms of religion, strongly resembling the status of Polis from Ancient Greece.
