The beauty of feeling insignificant

The 19th century artistic movement known as The Sublime, supported by Edmund Burke, claimed that there is beauty in feeling insignificant. Constantly reminding oneself of great dangers and problems that exist in the world or that could occur is helpful, as it makes quotidian problems seem small and unimportant. One way in which Burke spread his message was through paintings depicting storms or emotionally-impacting scenes that had the intention of humbling their admirers, reminding them of the beauty of daily life.
