Resorts as gardens for leisure
Although the meaning of resort is generally a place where one finds pleasure in their leisure time, in the Victorian period resorts were private gardens that served the same purpose. These gardens were comissioned to well-known landscape architects, such as Lancelot Capability Brown, and were designed for wealthy families to be places where they could escape the quotidian and relax in a well-designed garden.
